ABOUT
Whiskey Island is a nonprofit literary magazine that has been published in one form or another by the students of Cleveland State University for over 30 years.
It is named for the island-turned-peninsula found at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to having a distillery built upon it in 1836, Whiskey Island-turned-peninsula has played the role of: dump, US Coast Guard Station, ship graveyard, and predominantly-Irish-immigrant shanty town.
Recent contributors have included: Mary Ruefle, Maggie Smith, Steve Almond, Chiara Barzini, Denise Duhamel, Roxane Gay, Anne Germanacos, Matt Hart, Bob Hicok, Dora Malech, Karyna McGlynn, John McNally, Alissa Nutting, Aurelie Sheehan, Wendy Xu, Leni Zumas, and many others.

SUBMISSIONS
Whiskey Island seeks original poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction during two reading periods: August 15th through November 15th, and January 15th through April 15th.
We accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that you notify us immediately if placed elsewhere. Please, no multiple submissions. Please, no email or paper submissions.
Reporting time can be as long as 3 months, but we try to be much, much faster.
Our editors look for writing that surprises with language and plot. We love to be entertained. We recommend reading an issue or two before submitting. Sample issues can be purchased for $4, and our current issue can be purchased for $6.
